BG Exploration and Production Limited today announced an oil discovery in UK Block 13/24b, located in the outer Moray Firth area of the UKCS. The discovery lies approximately 80 miles north-east of Aberdeen.
The 13/24b-3 discovery well began drilling on March 10, 1997 and completed operations on April 29, 1997. The well tested sweet 32 degree API oil at a maximum flow rate in excess of 2600 barrels per day on a 40/64 inch choke.
This was the first well to be drilled by BG Exploration and Production Limited on Block 13/24b, which was awarded in the 14th Round of UK licensing in 1993. Planning work for an appraisal well to delineate the discovery is in progress.
BG Exploration and Production Limited holds a 50 per cent interest in Block 13/24b and operates the block in partnership with Amerada Hess Limited, 30 per cent, and Rigel Petroleum (NI) Limited, 20 per cent.
