Following the passing of all resolutions at the Extraordinary General Meeting of British Gas plc held on 12 February 1997, and the admission today of shares in Centrica plc to the Official List of the London Stock Exchange, the Demerger has become effective. Accordingly dealings in Centrica plc shares and in ex-entitlement BG plc shares have now commenced.

The changes to the Board of BG plc resulting from the demerger including the resignation of Sir Stanley Kalms as a non-executive director, are as previously announced and take effect today.
