Electronic Communication

At the AGM in 2007, shareholders approved certain changes to BG Group's Articles of Association to allow the Company to take advantage of the electronic communications provisions in the Companies Act 2006. As a result, BG Group is now able to use its website to communicate with shareholders to a greater extent than previously possible.

Selecting your preference

We are asking shareholders, who currently receive shareholder communications in traditional paper form, to confirm their preferred method of communication on the shareholder communications preference card that is attached to the 2009 proxy documentation. The communications preference card sets out in detail the choices available to shareholders. Shareholders have the following options to receive shareholder communications:

View shareholder communications on the BG Group website

Shareholders who wish to view shareholder communications (for example Annual Reports and notices of meetings) online instead of receiving them in hard copy, will be sent a notification by post whenever these are added to the website if they tick the box on the communications preference card and return the card in the reply paid envelope to:

Shareholders who would prefer to receive notifications by email whenever shareholder communications are added to the website, should visit www.shareview.co.uk/bg and register online.

Receive hard copies of shareholder communications by post

Shareholders who wish to continue to receive communications in traditional paper form need take no action.

Existing shareholders who wish to change their method of communication can do so by visiting www.shareview.co.uk/bg or by contacting the Company's Registrar, Equiniti, by telephone on 0871 384 2064 from the UK, or +44 (0)121 415 7029 from overseas.

Advantages of electronic communications

These arrangements will enable those shareholders who prefer to continue receiving communications in hard copy to do so. But BG Group will also be able to take advantage of the efficiencies from electronic communications, including:

  • the environmental benefits from a potential reduction in the usage of paper for printing shareholder communications;

  • the cost benefits from reduced printing and postal delivery processes; and

  • increased speed of communications as shareholders will be able to access communications from the Company on the day of publication, rather than having to wait for postal delivery

Shareholders will be able to change the way in which they receive shareholder documents at any time. In addition, hard copies will be available on request.

Shareholder documents on the BG website will be displayed in HTML (which can be viewed through a web browser) and/or Adobe PDF formats to ensure compliance with the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative - more information about the W3C initiative can be found at www.w3.org/wai. Adobe Acrobat, which is required to view Adobe PDF documents, is available as a free download from www.adobe.com
