Speak Up 


BG BG Group is committed to conducting business responsibly, ethically and in full compliance with the law.  It's good for business, good for society, good for employees, and it's the right thing to do.

Speak Up is BG’s whistleblowing policy which enables employees, contractors, agency workers, families of workers and members of the public to highlight their concerns if they feel the company or anyone working within it has not acted according to BG Group’s Business Principles

The policy includes the services of an independent external organisation called Global Compliance, which people can contact to report a concern confidentially, and anonymously if they wish, in their own language. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by telephone or online.

The Speak Up policy also places an explicit duty on employees to report breaches of the Group’s Business Principles when they become aware of them. In line with their duty to intervene when they see an unsafe act, employees must Speak Up when they suspect wrongdoing. This reflects best practice and is in tune with the heightened focus on good corporate governance across the business world.

Potential breaches of BG Group’s Business Principles include:

  • Ethics and compliance issues, such as financial reporting, insider trading, bribes or conflicts of interest

  • Employee relations and human resources issues, such as harassment, discrimination, or misconduct

  • Loss prevention and asset protection issues, such as criminal activity (for example fraud, threats and violence, alcohol/drug abuse or internal theft), the security and protection of assets and facilities or actions involving harm to the environment

  • Health and safety, such as taking unnecessary risks, not following mandatory guidelines or false reporting.

For employees, the first step for any concerns should be to talk to their manager who will generally be closest to the situation and best able to help. However, BG recognises that there may be instances when employees feel unable to raise concerns in this way and Speak Up provides an alternative.

On contacting Speak Up, issues will be handled promptly, confidentially and, if desired, anonymously. No call tracing or recording devices are used, nor are internet IP addresses captured.

When raising a concern, people should be assured that BG Group will not tolerate harassment, victimisation or reprisal of any kind. Speak Up users will be given a unique tracking number, allowing them to receive a response or provide more information.
