Why BG Group?

I joined BG Group in September 2005, knowing it to be a dynamic company. The business is expanding globally and with that comes the opportunity for career growth and development.

My training is in accounting and finance. I enjoy all aspects across the function, such as financial and management reporting, business planning and forecasting, tax, treasury and governance. I really enjoy working close to the operations, hence my preference for a role in an operating country.

Where do you fit in?

BG Group is involved in the production of oil and gas in India, under the Panna Mukta and Tapti Production Sharing Contracts, which is then supplied to Government entities to meet the energy requirements in India. The finance function is responsible for all financial and management reporting, business plan preparation, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, tax, governance and joint venture accounting.

What would I need to do your job?

With an opportunity like this, you get an overall perspective of the business and are part of the discussions in setting performance targets and performance management at country level. This involves constant interaction with various functions in the business and there is always something new to learn, so you’ll need to be a great communicator and ready to develop a broad understanding of the business. 

And the highlights?

Whether it was in my last role in Trinidad and Tobago or now in my current role in India, I’ve always been provided with positive professional challenges, requiring me to look for continuous improvements in my job. As such, I’m always assessing the performance of the team I work with and finding innovative ways to meet our deliverables.

What’s the work environment like?

The working environment in India is driven by delivering on business targets, so the team is hard working and supportive. The way we work here in India is culturally different from my last role in Trinidad and Tobago and it’s necessary to take the time to understand these differences, which is all part of the development benefits of working internationally.    


Has BG Group met your expectations?

My experiences at BG Group have been positive – expectations I had of the Company have been met. It is what you’d expect of a global organisation.
