Why BG Group?

For me, the sell was definitely the opportunity to work for a company large enough to compete for world-class projects, but small enough for an individual to provide strategic input. As a qualified lawyer, I’ve concentrated my practice on energy-related matters and so there was never really anywhere else I could see myself going. BG Group is one of the most respected names in the business.

Where do you fit in?

The legal department supports various aspects of the business, including commercial, governance, human resources and projects.  Most of our time is focussed on helping the commercial and business development teams to grow the business and maximise the value of our assets.

What would I need to do your job?

As such, you’d need to be hard working and dedicated, with the sort of mind that thrives on a challenge. It is an excellent job, which provides an opportunity to provide strategic input and support to a multi-billion dollar project.

And the highlights?

I’ve been really pleased to experience international travel and to have had the opportunity to work internationally.

What’s the work environment like?

The lawyers work closely with the commercial team and the LNG project team, and I’m also a member of the asset management team. Work is fast-paced, but everyone is working towards the same goal, which generates a good team spirit. 

Has BG Group met your expectations?

I’ve lived in places I’d never even considered and the experience has been fantastic, but otherwise everything has turned out largely as I had hoped, which is no bad thing.
