Why BG Group?

It’s a fascinating industry – even if you know nothing about it, you are exposed to it every day. I was drawn to the complexity of the industry, from geosciences to geopolitics, and I liked the way BG Group positioned itself within the industry. On the one hand, small enough to act quickly and retain a personable environment, on the other a FTSE 50 company that was growing rapidly. Six years on, we’re now a FTSE 10. 

Where do you fit in?

I’ve been lucky enough to move through a number of business areas – starting off in finance, then moving to commercial, economics and business planning. I’ve been the Aide to the Chief Exec now for close on a year and it’s been a tremendous development opportunity. 

What would I need to do your job?

If someone wanted to apply for my job, I’d tell them to go for it! You will learn more in three months than you would on any MBA programme.  It is a real privilege to work so closely with the leadership team and to be exposed to BG Group’s worldwide portfolio. You need common sense, a curious mind and the right approach to a range of circumstances. 

And the highlights?

My partner and I moved to Kazakhstan for two years with BG Group and loved it. Within the next decade, it will be the adventure travel destination - there are exquisite parts to Kazakhstan. The opportunity to experience the history of the former Soviet Union and learn more about the country and the people was also very special.  

What’s the work environment like?

High energy and constant change. A priority for me is finding the balance between a challenging working environment and enjoying life to the max.  You can find this balance at BG Group.
