The Legal Department
BG Group’s legal department prides itself on being a key strategic partner to the wider business and is recognised as one of the leading FTSE legal teams. Comprising of around 80 lawyers, our multidisciplinary team covers core functions ranging from group corporate and corporate responsibility (including employment and governance) to geographically focused teams aligned to BG Group’s international assets and business operations.
BG Group’s HQ is in Reading, UK and a significant number of our lawyers are based here; however there is a large network of lawyers outside the UK. With a blend of local and expatriate lawyers in these international locations, there is a truly international feel to both the team and the technical legal work. We have a well-resourced legal presence across five continents. From Egypt to the USA, Nigeria to Australia we work alongside technical, commercial, engineering and finance teams to deliver world class solutions. We play a key liaison role between governments, third parties and joint venture partners and all our lawyers need excellent interpersonal and communication skills to complement their legal ability.

With individuals of every level from paralegals and trainee solicitors to senior transactional lawyers and legal managers, the team prides itself on being truly diverse in terms of skills, backgrounds and strengths. The ethos of the team is to try and deal with the most critical work internally; hence the quality of the work is amongst the best in the business and can rival anything on offer in a City Firm. In addition there is a significant external budget, and a strong panel of external firms.
Above all, we operate as a single cohesive department and the ability to move between teams in a fluid manner is something we promote. We have a truly meritocratic approach with our people promoted according to their ability and commitment. Our new General Counsel, Graham Vinter, a former partner and Global Head of Projects at Allen & Overy, brings with him the desire to consolidate and strengthen the team and ensure it retains its place at the heart of the commercial process.
