We are aware that criminal organisations may contact individuals for money or personal information, on the pretext of securing employment opportunities with BG Group. These individuals and organisations are not representatives of BG Group or acting on BG Group's behalf. We have received reported numbers of these scams in recent months and have taken direct intervention. This action includes reporting the full details to the police, as well as taking measures to limit further activity by these groups.
We never ask potential applicants to pay any fees at any point in our recruitment process - this covers both potential employees and contractors. To do so would be in direct opposition to the core values and behaviours set out in our BG Group Business Principles.
The Metropolitan Police (UK) confirm that these scams are targeting currently the oil and gas industry, amongst other sectors, and that the crimes perpetrated include 'Criminal Cashback', 'Identity Fraud' and 'Advance Fee' frauds. They warn that fraudsters will also be using fake and copied websites to legitimise their activities. They also highlight that many of them make enticing offers towards the offence of Money Laundering. In particular, they offer the following advice:
"If an email offering a job is received, some basic questions should be asked - did you register with the agency or company that is offering the job? Do the details check out, including the contact address and phone numbers? Do they want your personal details, including Banking Details, as part of the application form? Do they want you to send money to their Travel Agency to pay for flights? Is money being requested prior to taking up the apparent position? One should consider as to whether such requests are really necessary. Try an internet search on the company name and other details such as the Companies House registration number, directors’ names, etc. Repeat the search with the word 'Scam' and you may get hits on sites that list the fraudsters".
If you are asked for money to progress your application, or are concerned about the authenticity of a request for personal information or feel uncomfortable with any aspect of the recruitment process, you should contact recruitment enquiries and tell us about your concerns and if possible send us copies of any requests you have received. We will continue to take action and report any apparent fraudulent activity to the relevant authorities, including the police.
