Philippe Varin (56) was appointed to the Board as a non-executive Director with effect from 2 May 2006. He became chief executive of Corus Group plc in May 2003. Prior to joining Corus, he spent 25 years with the Pechiney Group, which he joined in 1978 as a researcher. He subsequently served as vice-president, Engineering and Research and as project director for the construction of the Dunkirk (France) aluminium smelter. He later worked as group financial controller, based first in Paris then in Chicago at American National Can's headquarters. In March 1999, he was appointed senior executive vice president of the Aluminium Sector and a member of Pechiney's executive committee.
