QGC equipment sale raises funds for community centres

Three Western Downs community centres will share in more than $16,000 from the sale of equipment donated by coal seam gas company, QGC Pty Limited.

Televisions, air-conditioners, mattresses and gym equipment from QGC's camps at Windibri
and Kenya were among the items auctioned by Property Sales & Rentals (PS&R) over two
days in August and October.

The Chinchilla Family Support Centre, the Tara Neighbourhood Centre and the Murilla
Community Centre in Miles (including Wandoan) will share equally in the funds raised.
Chinchilla Family Support Centre coordinator Doreen Goldsmid said the donation would go
towards a range of initiatives.

"It is an enormous amount of money for our centres and we can really do a lot with it. It gives
us the freedom to advance programs already in place, and help address the many complex
demands on our services," she said.

Ms Goldsmid said some of the funding may be used to provide professional development
training to assist staff in the delivery of services.

Some televisions and air-conditioners not sold through the auctions will be donated to the
Chinchilla Hospital, Illoura Village – Aged Care Accommodation, Leichhardt House, Meals on
Wheels and Chinchilla Disability Services.

QGC Social Performance Gasfields Manager Tony Heidrich said the sale of the equipment
was a genuine community effort.

"These community centres provide vital services so we are very pleased to have the
opportunity to put equipment that we no longer needed towards a worthy cause," he said.

"This could not have happened without the generous support of many local people and
organisations. We appreciated the assistance of the PS&R team who provided storage and
auction services, Chinchilla News who provided advertising assistance, Laurie Marsh
Electrical which donated time to tag and test the electrical equipment and QGC staff who
volunteered their time prior to and on the auction days."
